Henry Expects More Open Game At Old Trafford Print E-mail
Monday, 28 April 2008

ImageExpect Tuesday's Champions League semi-final second leg at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Barcelona to be a far more open affair than last week's goalless draw at Camp Nou, says Barca striker Thierry Henry.

Henry-RonaldinhoAlthough last week's clash between two of Europe's most attractive footballing sides - the attack-minded Barcelona and Manchester United - was an anti-climax, failing to justify the eager pre-match anticipation - Thierry Heney expects a different sort of match at Old Trafford.

United were untypically ultra-defensive in Barceloma a week ago and succeeded in keeping a clean-sheet. But their limited attacking ambitions meant Barca were equall sucessful in not conceding an away goal.

But former Arsenal star Henry, asked if fans will see a more open game on Tuesday as both sides attack, creating more space to play in, said: "That's true. We might have more space but they will also create more danger."

It is not certain that the France international will start the game. He came on as a substitute in the first leg, but Barca boss Frank Rijkaard might feel that Henry's familiarity with United, and Old Trafford, from his Arsenal days might be worth exploiting from the start this time.

He was quoted on metro.co.uk as saying: "Here they didn't play their game, because we played well and we expect something different there. On occasions Manchester wanted to play but couldn't. It's not easy to come here and play better than us.

"They wanted to but couldn't."

Henry said of the prospect of returning to Old Trafford: "It's not like Anfield, which has an incredible atmosphere, but there is some atmosphere.

"It will be an important moment for them after playing Chelsea this Saturday especially knowing that playing against us won't be easy for them.

"With Arsenal we played some incredible games there. It was always a pretty fight."

While Barca, like United, are unbeaten in this season's Champions League campaign, their domestic league form has been woeful lately. It continued last night as Rijkaard's weakened side slumped to a tame 2-0 defeat by Deportivo La Coruna in Galicia.

Although he rested most of his key players, Rijkaard still put out an attacking trio of Bojan Krkic, Henry and Giovani Dos Santos, though the forwards failed to
make much impact.

The Dutch manager, insisting that his side had not been distracted by the looming United tie, said: "The defeat was the result of many factors: that we played another game a few days ago; the fact that there were a number of players on the pitch who lacked match rhythm; the absence of some players."
