Edu thinks that victory in the Copa del Rey will boost Valencia's
confidence for the final few games of the league season as they face a
relegation struggle in the coming weeks.
Los Ché have the chance to put their league worries to one side on
Wednesday night, however, as they travel to Madrid to take on Getafe in
the final of the cup at Vicente Calderón.
Edu returned to the
side at the weekend against Racing, but Valencia were beaten to see
them slip to within five points of the drop zone. That defeat hit the
team hard, but Edu has revealed that the players are attempting keep
each other spirits high and creating a confident air ahead of the vital
Copa del Rey match.
"We know where we are and we talk about how
important each game is every day, but now we have to try and forget
what is happening in the league and to go to the final feeling happier
and more positive and have a different dynamic, because it has not been
easy to reach this far," he said.
"Now we really must take
advantage of this day and go out to enjoy ourselves. We are not doing
well, but we have to be realistic. We really wanted to win at the
weekend and we are annoyed, but we are trying to talk things through
within the squad in order to keep calm and to allow us to focus on this
game coming up."
Valencia have six games to ensure that they will be playing top flight
football again next term after a dreadful run of form under Ronald
Koeman and Edu wants to win the cup to boost their morale. "We need
only positive thoughts ahead of such an important match. If we can win
the cup then it will boost our confidence and allow us to finish the
league strongly. We have to be at 100 per cent because we are in a
delicate situation," he added.
